This work consists of four parts. Each piece represents one Icelandic rune. All of the runes and their descriptions had been found in the book "Sorcerer's Screed. The Icelandic Book of Magic Spells" by Skuggi - Jochum Magnus Eggertsson. This project was originally printed in serigraphy technique as a part of my graduation exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland.
My first work is the rune called "Moon", which protects from haunting by the ghosts. In this case I draw a sky map in the background (with a fictional constellation of the Fox - due to fox pelt used in this spell). The rune is placed once again in the centre of this image, with ghost/evil spirits depicted as skulls with the smoke running behind them.
Second one is the rune called "Staves Against Stafnivargar and Animal Bites". This rune protects one from being bitten by the wild animals. For my work I chose bear, fox, wolf, snake and hornets. All animals that could be found in the wilderness and may pose a threat to a human being.
The third one is the rune called "Ghost Stave" which makes one see ghosts. I draw dark forest in the background with a fog above. In some parts of my project (inside the rune itself) fog turns into a visual representation of the ghosts. The rune enables seeing them, that is why I put a ghost inside.
Last one is the rune called "Thief Revealer", which makes one see who has robbed them. If anyone wants to know the identity of the thief, all the steps described in the book should be followed. This rune allows to see the thief's face. I illustrated not only the final outcome but also the steps needed to be taken in order to make it work.
